Environmental Protection Upgrading and Reconstruction Project for BOF Steel Slag Treatment of Hunan Valin I & S was Put into Production

Date:2025-08-05
Recently, the environmental protection upgrading and reconstruction project for BOF steel slag treatment of Hunan Valin Lianyuan Iron & Steel Co., Ltd., which was general contracted by Capital Engineering & Research Incorporation Limited (hereinafter referred to as "CERI"), has been fully put into operation successfully.

The project adopts the domestic advanced "granulation + hot disintegrating slag" treatment technology to granulate and digest the steel slag generated during BOF steelmaking, and then transfer it to the unloading platform through the transfer slag trough. The slag and iron are separated by screening magnetic separation process, and finally sent to the corresponding finished product warehouse for storage. The 1 Mt/a slag treatment line built for the project replaces the original hot disintegration pool technology with a three-stage treatment process of crushing-digestion-magnetic separation. In view of the long distance between the Steel Slag Plant and Steelmaking Plant of LY Steel, more large pieces of steel slag after cooling, and less liquid slag, the project team optimized the process system and strengthened the granulation equipment's processing capacity for large pieces of slag, achieving a low steel seizing-up rate and a high granulation rate on the production line, effectively improving the efficiency of steel slag resource utilization. At the same time, the domestic DCS system is used to achieve centralized control of the entire process, significantly improving the level of automation.

The project commenced in late September 2024 and took nine months to complete and put into operation, helping LY Steel achieve its ultra-low emission upgrading objective ahead of schedule. After being put into production, it will not only realize the specialized, automated and clean production of BOF steel slag treatment, but also consolidate CERI's technical advantages in the field of solid waste resource utilization, providing new support for the resource recycling of iron and steel enterprises.

As an important participant in the green transformation of the iron and steel industry, CERI will continue to give full play to its technological advantages, promote the realization of steel slag resource utilization and zero emission objectives, and contribute its wisdom and strength to help iron and steel enterprises achieve the "carbon peaking and carbon neutrality" goals.
