Recently, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology released a list of typical cases of IoT-empowered industry development in 2024. The "Smart Industrial Microgrid Energy Management and Control System" of Capital Engineering & Research Incorporation Limited ("CERI") was successfully selected as one of these typical cases.
The smart industrial microgrid energy management and control system was independently developed by CERI. Focusing on the current pain points of iron and steel enterprises' power grids, such as "low consumption of self-generated electricity, high electricity charges, and poor safety and stability" and guided by customer needs, CERI deeply integrated the Internet of Things (IoT), cloud computing and enterprise power grids, and determined the R&D goals of energy saving, intelligence and precise control. The company conducted in-depth research starting with the overall idea of architecture, algorithm, control and verification, and broken through the technical difficulties consisting of difficult data connection and sharing, uncontrollable gateway power flow direction, changeable grid topology structure, and control strategy that cannot be implemented in hot commissioning of real grids. For the first time at home and abroad, CERI has built a smart industrial microgrid energy management and control system with gateway power flow control as the core and suitability for ten-million-ton iron and steel enterprises, so as to fulfill the core functions including automatic power flow control, intelligent power grid dispatching, panoramic data acquisition, standardized equipment operation and maintenance, safe power grid operation and intelligent accident handling, and to comprehensively solve various problems in the construction, management, operation and maintenance of industrial enterprises' power grids. In this way, the system helps enterprises realize a number of practical needs such as maximizing the utilization of self-generated electricity, saving electricity expenses, cutting labor costs, reducing losses caused by power failure and reducing operation and maintenance costs. The system has been widely used in iron and steel enterprises such as Fengnan Iron & Steel Co., Ltd., Shiheng Special Steel Group Co., Ltd. and Linyi Iron and Steel Investment Group Special Steel Co., Ltd. According to the calculation of the actual application effect of the system, accurate control of the power flow of the enterprise's power grid gateway can help the enterprise increase the utilization rate of self-generated electricity by more than 7%. The system can bring an annual total income increase and expenditure reduction of more than RMB 300 million and reduce the cost per ton of steel by more than RMB 30 for ten-million-ton iron and steel enterprises every year. The system can also save about 560 million kWh of electricity and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 320,000 tons for enterprises every year. In this way, good economic and social benefits have been obtained, and positive contributions have been made to enterprises with high energy consumption in reducing cost, improving efficiency, saving energy, decreasing carbon emission, and developing extreme energy efficiency.
By systematically building a rapid coordination and control mechanism integrating the source, grid, load and storage and establishing a self-circulation system for power generation and consumption, the electricity demand of overseas iron and steel enterprises and parks for efficient production can be met, and a green development momentum will be continuously injected into implementing the "Belt and Road" initiative. Moreover, in the context of all walks of life pursuing extreme energy efficiency development, the system is also applicable to petrochemical, cement, paper making and other industrial fields, empowering high-quality development of industrial enterprises.
