On October 18, the hot commissioning of the 2-strand slab caster in the 3# Slab Caster Project of Guangxi Iron and Steel Group's Steel Mill succeeded. Capital Engineering & Research Incorporation Limited ("CERI") was the EPC general contractor of the Project.

The 3# slab caster in Guangxi Iron and Steel Group's Steel Mill is the world's first 2-strand straight-arc slab caster with the largest specification. CERI is responsible for the overall design, supply, and construction. The billet size is 400 mm×2,600 mm, and the annual output of qualified billet can be up to 2.17 million tons.  In view of the industry problems such as surface cracks and core quality control of extra-thick plates, more than 40 process technologies were adopted for technical configuration, including whole-process protection casting, hydraulic oscillation of molds, mold breakout prediction, hydraulic width adjustment of molds, three-dimensional two-target temperature control dynamic secondary cooling water distribution, dynamic soft reduction and large reduction, electromagnetic stirring, and billet quality tracking and judgment. The technical configuration is at the highest level among similar products and provides a strong guarantee for the production of flawless extra-thick slabs.
