Successful Hot Commissioning of No.2 Slab Continuous Caster Work of 2.7 Million Tons Project of Malaysia Eastern Steel

Date:2023-11-24

The No. 2 Slab Continuous Caster Work for the 2.7 million tons project of Malaysia Eastern Steel, designed and supplied by CERI, successfully produced the slab at 16:08 on October 15th, realizing a one-time success in the hot commissioning. This marks the full operation of the pre-steel area of the Phase II of the Malaysia Eastern Steel.

As a key work in the Phase II of the Malaysia Eastern Steel, the No. 2 slab continuous caster can produce 1.6 million tons of qualified slabs per year, with specifications of 200 mm×900–1300 mm. The products serve the entire Southeast Asia and East Asia market, pushing the Eastern Steel Group further towards its goal of becoming a first-class steel company. This project is another sincere collaboration following the Project for Six-Strand Billet Casting jointly built by Eastern Steel Sdn Bhd and CERI in 2018, and it is also the first slab continuous casting project commissioned by CERI overseas.

The layout of the No. 2 slab continuous caster at Eastern Steel was within the original plant. During the project design and construction period, Eastern Steel and the Jianlong Group closely cooperated and worked in harmony with CERI. They overcame many difficulties such as the impact of the pandemic, tight land, simultaneous production and construction, long shipping cycles, lack of local materials, and high temperature and humidity in the rainy season. Maximum use was made of existing facilities, ensuring reasonable layout, smooth process, investment saving, and spare parts reduction.
