1,380 m³ Blast Furnace Works of Malaysia Eastern Steel's 2.7 MTA Project Successfully Put into Operation

Date:2023-11-24

On October 8th, after an 18-month construction period, the blast furnace of Malaysia Eastern Steel's 2.7 million tons project with a volume of 1380 m3 was successfully ignited. On October 9th, the first batch of molten iron emerged from the blast furnace taphole, signifying the full operation of the blast furnace project.

Malaysia Eastern Steel's 1380 m3 blast furnace is currently the largest in Malaysia, with an annual molten iron output of up to 1.7 million tons. Since the project started on March 20, 2022, the Project Department, focusing on contracts and planning, has managed the entire process from design, procurement, supervision, logistics, and commissioning. Through meticulous planning and close cooperation with the owner and related cooperating units, the Project Department has overcome many difficulties such as long shipping cycles, the pandemic, and the consistently high temperatures and humidity in Malaysia to ensure the timely arrival of necessary project equipment.

The Phase II of the Malaysia Eastern Steel, designed and supplied overall by CERI, adopts the most advanced production processes and technical equipment in the industry, such as the blast furnace bunker intelligent loading system, furnace erosion model, blast furnace expert system, and hot blast stove disturbance-free furnace changing technology. These can enable quick responses and precise analysis in each production link, intelligent control of cost, quality, and energy, and provide high-quality raw material guarantees for the downstream industrial chain. This blast furnace project is another engineering example set by CERI serving overseas projects with Chinese technology, adding another new blast furnace designed, supplied, and commissioned by CERI ."
