On April 10, a grand groundbreaking ceremony was held in Goutang County, Xinmi for the Damoling Coal Mine Drainage Resource Utilization Project Xinmi designed by CERI. The major construction contents of the project include the water-purification plant, water transmission and distribution pipe network, reservoir and riverway dredging and impoundment, comprehensive management, etc., which is a comprehensive project study the reuse of coal mine drainage resource.

With the Damoling coal mine being officially put into operation in Xinmi in 2020, large amounts of gushing water was directly discharged into rivers, causing a serious waste of water resources. In addition, the pumping and drainage of underground water has led to a huge “dewatering funnel” underground, making it difficult to exploit the deep-well water that the surrounding residents rely on for survival, and bringing great inconvenience to the water usage for residents’ livelihood and agricultural production.

Through in-depth interpretation of relevant city-level, town-level and village-level plans, continuous supervision of the water quality and quantity of the Damoling coal mine drainage, extensive interview and study on the current situation of water usage and the operations of rivers and reservoirs among nearby residents, and communication and contact with relevant local departments, such as land, water conservancy and environmental protection, the Damoling design team of the Institute of Transportation Planning and Design of the construction company of CERI finally put forward the scheme of economic, practical, and innovative utilization of mine drainage resources.

The successful implementation of this project will strongly guarantee the safety of water usage for its surrounding residents, and effectively improve the ecology of rivers and lakes around the project, significantly promoting the capabilities of water resource allocation, water ecology restoration, water environment treatment and water disaster prevention.
