Yueyufeng high-speed bar rolling mill revamping project contracted by CERI created the shortest construction period in China

As the first rebar was successfully rolled and sent to the cooling bed on April 10, 2022, the high-speed bar revamping project of Yueyufeng Iron & Steel Co., Ltd., which was contracted by CERI, has successfully completed the hot commissioning. Such internationally leading intelligent production line featuring high precision, high speed and low cost took only 130 days from the signing of contract to the hot commissioning, showing an amazing “CERI Speed”, and once again adding new honors to the achievements of high speed bar rolling mill for CERI.


Taking “Technology” As the Forerunner to Forge Competitive Products

At the beginning of December 2021, CERI signed a contract with Yueyufeng Iron & Steel for the high-speed bar transformation project to transform the existing high speed wire rod mill into a high speed bar rolling mill, with an annual output of 800,000 tons. The main products include hot-rolled bars of Φ10mm~Φ16mm. CERI is responsible for the design, the supply of mechanical and electrical equipment, and the electrical commissioning of the project.

A series of technologies and measures are introduced to ensure the competitiveness of products:

(1) Fully utilize the old equipment to reduce the investment

Careful design and repeated demonstration. Without limiting the functions, the plants, equipment and foundation of the original old speed wire rod mill are fully utilized, which effectively reduces the project investment and shortens the construction period.

(2) Tapping the potential and reduce the consumption to improve the efficiency

Realize unlimited design with limited space. By utilizing the limited site and fully considering the technologies of rolling control and cooling control, this project achieved alloy reduction, creating favorable conditions to reduce the cost while increasing the efficiency.

(3) Innovating the equipment to ensure stability

A full set of high-speed feeding equipment consisting of the high-speed double-length flying shear, the tail-clamping device and the servo hub and supporting electrical control technologies are used core equipment of the production line to ensure the stable operation of the high-speed feeding system at the speed of 45m/s.


Taking “Speed” As Policy to Create Win-win Value

This project took only 130 days from the signing of contract to operation. During the construction, the Project Department made careful plans for each link. All parties, including project design, procurement, construction, installation, and commissioning, strengthened the communication and coordination to closely cooperate with each other. Through overcoming a series of difficulties such as the Spring Festival holiday, repeated outbreak of the epidemic, shortage of chips and delayed delivery of imported components, both teams of this project finally completed the goals and tasks successfully with their joint efforts. “CERI Speed” created a win-win value for both CERI and Yueyufeng.


Taking “Intelligence” As an Engine to Open New Chapters for Production Line

The revamping of this project upgraded the power supply and distribution, drive system and automation systems of the whole line through utilizing the old equipment, which effectively improved the reliability and stability of the production line and reduced the cost of operation and maintenance. It should be noted that the ac drive device HCE880 series products independently developed by CERI were used, featuring high dynamic performance, high precision, and high reliability. The overall upgrading and revamping of the electrical system has laid a solid foundation for the subsequent development of digital and intelligent production lines. At the same time, the electrical control system of the project was developed based on the brand-new system platform of GE PAC, and the electrical control team completed software development, system testing, man-machine interface, and on-site debugging and optimization within just a month.

Through upgrading and revamping, this project has established the high speed bar rolling mill with rolling control and cooling control functions conforming to new national standards of China on the basis of traditional homemade high speed wire rod mill, creating the shortest construction period among similar projects in China.
